Eh - love the yarns - the patterns left me cold. The extra goodies were minimal (especially compared to my Yarntini and Woolgirl sock clubs). I'd save that money and just order the $$ quantity of STR yarn. I have over half a dozen mini skein keychains now.
Well, I think, if the hubby lets you and you think its a good thing to do.. I mean, you love socks, it's not like you wont knit them. You will buy wool for knitting socks anyway.
I did it the first year and honestly I have never knit one of the patterns (though there is still hope yet). I would suggest just buying the skeins you want from them and if it is a club you are looking for, try one of the clubs from indie dyers on Etsy. (I really like DkKnits, she personalized every skein you get based on your answers to a questionnare).
If you have the funds I would go for it. Many of the patterns have pushed me to try new things...at least once! It might not have all the goodies that some other clubs have, but it has a sense of "experience" that is hard to beat. The Dyer's notes are written by Tina and are great! My husband reads all of them, too and loves them.
Like any club, you might not always like the color or the pattern...but someone else on your "knit for others" list might.
Now and again a color left me less than delighted in the skein...you know the kind...not a color you would choose on your own...everytime, once I started knitting with it I ended up loving it. In two years, there was one pattern I didn't knit as I wanted to use the yarn for something else (Silkie yarn), and one pattern I didn't knit as the combination of the color and pattern didn't resonate with me, so I used the yarn for a different pattern and ended up loving the color (Monsoons).
Lastly, I think it is great to knit patterns from designers like Cat Bordhi, Cookie A, and the Yarn Harlot. They each bring their own personality and signature to the patterns they design.
You seem to really enjoy knitting socks, and have met various challenges in your sock knitting with such great enthusiasm and attitude. I think you would enjoy the variety presented to you in this club.

Maybe someone else would be more helpful... :-)
Oh you should probably make a promise to buy no other sock yarn for the period you are signed up for the club.... what do you think?
